Camp Grandma got off to a great start! The campers arrived at 8:00 in the morning and we chilled until about 11:00. We looked at the chalk painting supplies for Tuesday and did a little prep by punching out the pieces in several stencils to use with the chalk paint. We also got paint brushes out and opened all the chalk products and read the directions. Now we just have to pray it doesn’t rain tomorrow.
Anyway-We drove to Young’s Jersey Dairy arriving just before Noon. We looked at, petted and fed the goats, then we did a quick walk through the little barn and saw a couple mom goats with twins. There were two calves that we petted as well. Then it was to the main building for some lunch. Hot dogs, french fries, fried cheese curds, and-Pepsi! Nothing beats being spoiled by the camp director. We got chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup with chocolate chips and we got mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Then it was off to Cowtherine’s carousel. The campers picked their animals: a cow and a green speckled horse. The carousel went faster than expected to the great pleasure of the campers. After that it was eighteen holes of putt-putt golf! The campers decided since we were having fun we would not keep score. (wise choice!)
After that it was a quick stop at the camper’s house to pick up swim suits or clothes to wear while playing in the hose. The screams and laughs were heart warming. The play in the hose lasted longer than expected but did finally come to an end. Clothes were changed, and campers were immediately bored. What do bored campers do at 5:00pm when mom isn’t due until 6:30pm? Well, of course, they write books. One camper titled her book “Camp Grandma” that should be interesting.
The director mowed a little bit of the lawn but decided that there were just too many sticks. Tuesday one of the camp activities will be picking up sticks.
The campers took the trash cans to the curb and went home for the day while the director finished off the afternoon with a delicious slice of blackberry pie from the dairy and then sat down to do some writing.
I’ll be back after day two.
