Camp Grandma – Day Two

Whew! What a first day of camp! The camp director’s knees are feeling it! But we move on!

Day two-the campers arrived at about 8:45 a.m. all spunky and excited about using sidewalk chalk in a spray can! (Shout out to 5 Below) The plans for the driveway went from Godzilla to much more simple designs. The campers also had what looked like giant paint brushes but the instead of bristles there was a sponge and of course, chalk paint to dip that sponge into so they could paint more of the driveway.

First things first-the camp director had to shower and then organize the grocery list. Yes, I made them shop. Tomorrow we are making ice cream and we needed to do pre-ice cream prep today. Luckily, almost all of the items they needed were in aisle 5 at the grocery. Lucky for the camp director aisle 5 was just across from where you exit Starbucks! With caffeine on board we headed to aisle five. The director read each item they needed and the kids went searching. They found everything they needed from the aisle. Then it was off to the dairy section for heavy cream, whole milk and cream cheese. We grabbed a little sushi for the director and lunchables for the campers and headed home.

The campers ate their lunch while the director put the groceries away. Then it was time for CHALK PAINT!! The campers wrote their names, their initials, drew some awesome pictures. They decided they were finished so they cleaned up, found a place in the garage for the supplies and went back inside the house.

Now it was time for the ice cream prep. The older camper (third grade) loves math (hence fractions like 1/2 C. and 3/4 C.) The director explained “cooking math” and she and the camper worked together to prep his vanilla ice cream with mini chocolate chips

WE INTERRUPT THIS BLOG POST FOR A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!

Mom called and may have found a sitter for the kids for the summer. The camp director must deliver the kids to mom’s work at 5:30pm today in order for the kids to go meet and greet with the possible summer sitter. The excitement is off the charts! The campers are now doing “what if.” (what if the sitter plays video games, etc.) The director suggested the campers each make a list of questions they have for the sitter. They liked that idea and immediately asked for pieces of paper and pencils. The questions were good ones; Can we play video games? What do you like? Do you have kids? Will we have to pack lunch? Do you play video games? Is there quiet time? Pretty good questions if you ask the camp director.

WE NOW RETURN TO OUR REGULAR BLOG POST.

Next it was time to prep the younger camper’s strawberry ice cream. This prep included the director cutting up a large package of strawberries. It seemed that the younger camper (first grade) was not very interested in prepping ice cream at all-and the director was tired so she did it herself while the campers watched T.V. The campers were very excited about going to mom’s work and kept asking how many minutes. The first grade camper miss-heard the last time she asked and thought she heard thirty minutes when in fact it was an hour and thirty minutes. This made for a very excited but disappointed camper.

The campers made the wait! It was then time to go to mom’s work. They picked up, cleaned up, and packed up their stuff (including a miniature rose plant that grandma purchased for the younger camper to take to her grandpa [the director’s ex] when they go over for Easter dinner.) The campers were safely delivered to their mom’s work and the camp director returned home with a small side trip to a place with amazing pulled pork and beef brisket. The leftovers will be for lunch tomorrow.

Be back tomorrow with more Camp Grandma updates.
